Overall, I am very happy with the results. This was definitely a learning process and next time I will know what to do!
Finished African Safari Cake.
Took some pics to show the process. This is the first shot. I wanted to add some texture to the fondant, so I dipped my hand in chocolate melts(of which I was told were the same thing as modeling chocolate....it is so not the same thing)and smeared chocolate all over. It didn't have the affect I wanted so I painted over it with a brown/yellow mix.
Ever since I googled pictures of safari cakes at the start of my quest, I have wanted to paint a sunset scene. At this point I was a little nervous. For some reason my cake looked more like a tribute to Jamaica than the savannah.
Painting the foreground.
Up close shot.
This was the night before the cake was due. I wanted the affect of real looking savannah grass so I bought some grass and such from the floral department of Wal-Mart.
The close to finished product. The tree in the background is made of modeling chocolate. I waited until I was at the delivery site before piping on leaves.
The birthday girl=)
A tribute to my first, made-from-scratch, animals.
ABSOLUTELY IMPRESSIVE! Great job!
